Design & Build Quality

A major reason why people appreciate the Caliburn so much is its style. It’s simple, but stylish and comfortable to hold and to vape with. Sizes for the Caliburn measure in at 110mm by 21mm by 12mm. It’s tall and slim so being able to hold it at the base and vaping on it feels very effortless and comfortable. It can be tucked into the pockets of your pants, or in a pocket on your shirt and don’t even know it’s there.

“CALIBURN” will be printed across the front of the device and “UWELL” appears on its back. There are two raised lines at each ‘corner’ on the Uwell Caliburn that run from the top to bottom. These lines match up with the lines on the pod, which gives the Caliburn an extra clean design flair. It certainly makes the Caliburn look more attractive than it would be if it were just plain.

The Caliburn is made from aluminum alloy and as a result, it’s a very light device. However, it’s quite durable and durable however. Since the device is totally smooth, I’ve dropped it from standing height several times to concrete and hardwood floors. Apart from a few minor scratches and dings it’s intact and functioning perfectly.

Caliburn comes in six different shades. Five of the colors are solid and one fades from pink to blue. The paint on my black review unit has held its own well, other than some minor scratches and dings from dropping it. It’s not easy to scratch, nor does the paint doesn’t rub or flake off in a flash. However, the lower edges of my Caliburn have some paint coming out of being sat on all types of different surfaces.

You can choose to either hit the power/fire button smoke or draw directly across the mouthpiece. The Caliburn comes with both button activated and draw activated firing. This means it’s possible to choose the method you like. Its fire button very well made and requires some pressure to trigger. It isn’t wiggle or move even a bit.

Just below the power/fire button is an indicator light. It will light up green or blue to show the level of battery. The LED will blink each time you draw or hit on the button to fire.

On each side of the device, there is an opening for the ejuice viewing window on the pod. When the pod is inserted the window will be placed inside the cutout, allowing you to examine the level of your ejuice without having to remove it. The window is transparent so it’s very convenient and easy to view into.

Standard Caliburn pods attach magnetically, and then click into their place. You must push down reasonably hard to get it to snap into battery. When the pod clicks into place it’s a flush fit with zero movement or any wiggle. You can also use Caliburn Koko pods to connect with the Caliburn, but they don’t snap into the battery like the standard Caliburn pods. Caliburn Koko pods can only be attached using magnets. They’re still a secure fit , and I’ve found they stay attached as well as regular Caliburn pods.

Pod

Caliburn pods can hold up to 2ml of liquid. Two identical pods come in the box which have inbuilt 1.4ohm coils. The pods can be replaced, so you don’t have to change the coils. Once the pods have burned out, you must replace the whole pod. This is ideal for people who are looking for a basic device that they fill up and begin using.

You can also make use of Caliburn Koko pods to complement the Caliburn. Those pods are 1.2ohm and feature the red base (the base on traditional Caliburn pods are black).

Airflow is pumped into the pod through tiny airflow holes on side of Caliburn. The airflow flows in through a hole in the inside of the pod.

The mouthpiece on the pod slopes in on both sides, and is comfortable to smoke on. The mouthpiece of the pod also acts as the fill cap. It is necessary to take the cap off to gain access to the fill ports however it’s a challenge to take out of the cap. Wiggling to cap side to side is helpful, but it’s not easy to remove.

When you take the cap off you’ll find three holes. The middle hole is not a fill hole so don’t fill it with ejuice or you’ll inundate the coil! The pod can be filled using one or both of the outer holes. When you fill a hole, the next lets air escape to make filling it simpler.

Even with the air release hole, it is necessary to add the liquid slowly. Because the coil is situated in the middle of the pod, ejuice isn’t evenly distributed unless that you turn the point of the pod. By tilting the pod, you’ll cause the ejuice to flow to the opposite direction. If you fill it too fast the ejuice will fill only on the side of hole that you’ve chosen and leave through the hole. Once you’ve filled the mouthpiece or cap pressure is re-fitted onto the pod.

Charger and Battery

The Caliburn has a 520mAh battery. Fully charged, the Caliburn lasts for quite a bit of vaping. It’s only 11W power, which means it consumes a tiny amount of battery power for each draw. On average I’ve been getting approximately 3 refills per battery.

The LED underneath the power button shows the battery’s charge level. There are three colorsavailable:

Green: 100-60%
Blue: 60-30%
Red: Below 30 percent

You can press the fire button to test the battery’s level, or when you puff using draw activation it will also turn on the LED.

Charge times are quick, even when the Caliburn makes use of micro-USB charging. It takes just 45 minutes for it to be a dead completely charged. It also supports pass-thru charging so it can be used to vape while it is charging.

Performance

The Caliburn is a great vape. The included pods and Caliburn Koko pods give the same draw; a loose but not airy MTL draw. If you prefer a tight MTL draw then this might not be the device for you.

The regular 1.4ohm Caliburn pods deliver a good throat hit that is accompanied by a 50mg nic salt. Its vapor tastes warm but not too hot, which is really enjoyable. The flavor is really nice and stands up to all the hype that is out on the market. The production of vapor is higher than you’d expect for an eleven-watt device.

Caliburn Koko pods offer a similar experience to the normal pods. But since they’re 1.2ohm pods they’re slightly warmer. The vapor isn’t hot, but definitely warmer than the normal pod. Flavor and cloud production are also excellent and pleasing.

To draw very warm, make use of pods from the Caliburn Koko pods. For only a warm draw, take the standard pods.

The vapour production, flavor and even the warmth start to drop off as the battery ages. The Caliburn isn’t a continuous output device, so this is expected. When the battery is red, it’s much less of a draw. I would tend to charge it when it got to this level.

No pods leak or caused any problems during my testing. I used mostly 50/50 nic salts, but I also tried an e-juice with 60 VG once. I would often take long draws and chain smoked and never experienced a dry hit or even close to. Wicking with the pods are really great and not a problem.

I’ve had each pod for approximately a week and through numerous refills every day and they’re still going strong. The pod life is definitely an advantage that this device has.

Verdict

The Caliburn does have a few spots which could be improved, but it’s generally a great vape. If you’re looking to get a strong MTL draw, then you’ll need to consider a different device. But for a easy MTL draw you’ll be pleased by the Caliburn.

For beginners, the Caliburn is a great choice because of the user-friendly interface and the ease of use, while more experienced users will still appreciate the flavor and the long battery life the Caliburn can provide. If you’re looking for a nicotine salt vape, the Caliburn is definitely one of the top devices you can purchase today.

The Caliburn is well-made and the pods last for a long time and the taste is great. I’d still be able to recommend the Caliburn, even in the current options available.
